Litron Scientists Receive Inventor of the Year Award
The Rochester Intellectual Property Law Association (RIPLA) has selected Andrew M. Tometsko, Ph.D. (deceased), Stephen D. Dertinger, Ph.D. and Dorothea K. Torous, all of Litron Laboratories as the recipients of the 2007 RIPLA Distinguished Inventor of the Year Award. The 35th annual RIPLA Inventor of the Year Ceremony was held on May 1, 2007 at the Rochester Museum & Science Center before a large group of past honorees as well as friends and co-workers of Litron award winners. The Distinguished Inventor of the Year Award has been given annually by RIPLA since 1973 to local inventors to recognize their creativity, innovation, diligence, contribution and influence on science, and impact on our community and society. Intellectual property attorney, Ted Merkel of Nixon Peabody, nominated these recipients for this year's award. The invention for which the Award was given helps to assess the safety of the medicines we take. This patented MicroFlow® method uses lasers to determine whether a new drug is likely to cause cancer. With just a few drops of blood, a scientist can now analyze thousands of cells per second, significantly improving the reproducibility of data over other methods. Today, many of the largest and most demanding pharmaceutical companies and government agencies in the world routinely use MicroFlow during their drug development studies. |
